College Students should be lucky employers are hiring them for $10.00, (Rant published in Valdosta Daily Times by local citizen)
On April 29, 2009 a rant in the Valdosta Daily Times said, “college students complaining about not being able to get a job or start out at $10 an hour should be lucky employers are hiring them......and if they are unhappy they should join the Army.”
This local citizen failed to mention that student loans must be repaid or the long hours of study and the delaying of ones life among other things to get a college degree.
Moreover the rant shows how little some citizens in Valdosta, and Lowndes County Georgia know about the high cost of education. And even less about the sick and disgraceful Georgia “At Will Employment Law,” Georgia Politicians have forced upon us. This law allows Employers to terminate workers for good cause, bad cause, or for no cause at all, without requiring EMPLOYERS to provide a reason for workers termination. Thanks to Georgia Politicians who have sold Georgia Workers Rights down the drain. How Sad?
The rant glorifies living beneath the poverty line, without health insurance, sick leave, vacation time, or a retirement plan-----unlike their employers. And this sick Georgia At Will Employment Law, will not change until we change our voting habits and remove all politicians who keep this LAW in force.
It is sad, that we live in the Bible belt where citizens read their bible, but know little to nothing, about the laws that governs their daily lives and the life of their children. How sad? But then who cares?
