I don't need a perfectly
I don't need a perfectly free country, really I don't need a specific country at all. I just need a government I can trust and with good reason, since the very idea of government is here to stay.
McCain benefits because you speak out. He helps you, you get better, you tell people he helped you, at least some of them vote for him. I'm not saying at all you shouldn't tell people that, so long as it's true, but since you asked.... I just hope people are smart enough to ask themselves, why then if he wants to help the soldiers does he leave them in a situation like the one in Iraq? What would be one of the first things he'd do once inaugurated? Something tells me he'd cut military benefits and your comrades will end up in something resembling an Army hospital 40 years ago, which I won't go into because I'm sure you know exactly what I'm talking about.
The Vietnamese resisted the French and Americans for over 100 years, and the Chinese for longer than that. They took massive casualties all along, and still won in the end. Mccain should know this, and knowing this should never say "I'm prepared to keep our soldiers in Iraq for 100 years if need be". Access to Iraq from outside sources is much more liberated than access to Texas, and these psychos we're allegedly fighting are a lot more fanatical than any Viet Cong I've ever heard of. They're also a lot less rational to boot.
This very scene that we're all witnessing now has been played out so many times in history, and without all out slaughter and genocide it's difficult for me to remember any time where the aggressors actually won against a guerilla force. In all the cases there was always one thing that was missing and that's public support. As we learned in Viet Nam you cannot gain the people by bombing or shooting them or their families and friends. We can gain them by getting clean water and decent fresh food to them, which has been neglected for over 5 years now. Do you see it happening any time soon? But anyway I think I've rambled on enough for a Thursday. Take good care of yourself and I hope to read your thoughts soon.
WOW
Remy, you are absolutly right. If you loook at my forum titled " Should we stay in Iraq" it talks about the same thing. The Surge isn't working, but you know what is???? It's the money we are paying the civilian sector for doing a nieborhood watch. I don't know about you, but I don't need to be paid to turn in a person who could violate the safty of my family or friends. Yet, here we are paying them to turn in some cache's. The surge has nothing to do with anything. Our ground tactics have only changed slightly since the beginning. We still go door to door, looking for evidence to detain people. The reason this isnt working is because the majority of the terrorists are coming from across the borders.
Now, my stand point on wether we should get out or not? I really don't know. I don't know if a total withdraw, a partial withdraw, or maintaning occupation is going to change much. I don't think anyone can really answer the question of what's going to happen in the future. We deffinatly didnt see SEPT 11th coming. Though if we had our eyes open we prolly could have. So, in conclusion Remy, I don't know. I don't even know what is a good course of action at this point, but I do know inaction is always bad in combat, so maybe that's something to think about.
its the thought that counts
Hey, sorry to tell you but war protesting doesn't work. It's been tried. sorry. try writting letter to congress or something. I've found that that has a better impact. But, you can't just complain. You have to give them good points on how to change the situation in Iraq or your words are going to end up in the trash. plus you have to submit new ideas. If you want to create change in this country you need to be more creative. without breaking the law of course. Protesting is a good way for other protesters to hear what you think though. unfortunatly the only way it gets on the news is if it gets violet. sad but true.
The only good points on how
The only good points on how to change anything in this country that I can tell a lowly Congressman, is to demand his resignation. That's a pretty good idea I think, but they never listen. Throughout all the protesting history just in the last 50 years there has been countless creative people who were never listened to, and they turned out to be absolutely right about pretty much everything. Some of them were silenced.
Without breaking the law? Those who made the law are unjust, those who pretend to enforce the laws are unjust, those who break the law are just, because the very law itself is unjust. I read something earlier today about how you're not supposed to have an opinion, yet you do, and you should. But why then tell these fine people to stick to laws that shouldn't exist? Personally I say break every single law you can short of endangering others, but that's just me. Let's get some real civil disobedience up in this bitch.
How's this for an idea, stop buying cell phones and such and start helping each other. There's nothing the swine in government fear more, then the people banding together, and not buying their buddies products. I do agree though that protesting is bullshit, but talking to people on the street is not. But so long as your Congressman only wants to be a capitalist and not a human being, that person will not help you unless it serves their end as well.
You should all probably start stealing gas from here on in. I don't drive so, that's all up to you guys and it's just my suggestion. Sure in the long run it won't help you, but at least you can stick up for yourselves, and that to me is worth a lot more than so-called "comfortable living". Oh and don't worry about the owner of the station, he's exploiting you anyway.
I don't know
I agree that there is alot that needs to change in our country, but I think you make it out to be much worse than what it is. We have freedoms in this country that are unmatched by many many other country's. Though, the corprate world has gotten out of control, which is why there is even unemployment in this country. That's one thing I don't see our government even attempting to change. What's worse is even if we were able to get an off party president it wouldn't mean shit with congress and senate being all dem and rep. And, yes the legal system at times is a joke. Letting people walk who should be in prison, and vise versa. Yet, with all these problems there is no other country in the world I would rather live in. This is my country. this is my home. Nothing will change that. When you find a perfectly free country let me know, cuz ill move there.
People aren't going to stop buying cell phones, or paying for internet. They arent going to stop putting fuel in their cars, or stop going to wal-mart. No matter how much boycotting these things would help deliver a message you will never get enough people on-board to make a difference. The absolute only way to make changes is to either become a congress person, or talk to them. actually let me take that back. Senators are the ones who will usually listen. Congresman don't listen or reply to my messages. I'ts only senators. In fact. Senator McCain is one of the people who helped get me the medical treatment I needed. Try to tell me how that could possibly benefit him? Cuz, his view is we need to stay in Iraq.
