I was thinking of starting a medical FAQ

because of all the medical spin in the media. Give me some questions and I'll answer them. You might like the answer, you might not, but you can't say you didn't learn something. ;) Some starter questions:

Nutrition
No single food solves all your nutritional needs; rather, what's important are dietary patterns. Consistently overeat and you'll get fat. Also, unless you're either a vegan or a junk food junkie, you don't need supplements. In fact, every time you hear "dietary supplement", you should think "pyramid scheme quacks who have no government regulation to speak of".

AIDS
No, it was not created in a lab. No, abstinence education does not help prevent HIV. No, homeopathic medicine does not cure HIV. Yes, HIV causes AIDS. No, circumcision does not prevent HIV. Naturally, garlic and olive oil doesn't either.

Cancer
Cancer refers to many different diseases. However, they are all genetic; this doesn't mean they're all hereditary. Like, I have no family history of cancer; therefore, logically, my proto-oncogenes are less mutated than someone the same age. However, that can change depending on what I'm exposed to. The biggest risk factor in cancer is diabetes, so watch the white flour.

Ischemic disease
Heart attack, stroke, PAD...But the thing is, most people don't even realize that cholesterol isn't the most important risk factor, and they go around doing the exact opposite of what they should be doing to reduce that. They cut out the butter and replace it witih margarine, cut out eggs and replace them with sugary cereals, and so on.
