my first press release announcing my opposition to the war

Austin, TX – A local Austin soldier and political activist is fighting to avoid being sent to Iraq under an approved federal program designed to supplement the number of active duty troops in Iraq. Carl Webb, 38, is a member of the Texas Army National Guard and a U.S. army veteran. In 2001 following a 7-year break in service, he enlisted in the National Guard expecting to serve for only three years. His term of service ends August 22, however, less than two months shy of the end of his service completion he was informed that his term had been involuntarily extended and he would be sent to Fort Hood for training and deployed to Iraq in November.
Webb is one of many reservists who is being compelled to serve in the war in Iraq under the stop-loss program. This program, which made its first appearance in the Persian Gulf War of the early 1990s, keeps soldiers scheduled for deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan from leaving when their term of service ends. More than 10,000 soldiers are covered under the rules now, according to the Virginian Pilot.

Webb, who served in the U.S. Army for 7 active years, is conscienciously objects to being sent to Iraq for numerous reasons. The reasons that the U.S. government used to justify the imperialist war in Iraq have proven to be unfounded; however, even if they had been, Webb still would oppose the U.S. going to war against the Iraqi people.

“The war is unethical and illegal U.S. aggression,” he said. “It’s all about oil and profits.”

He is also vehemently against the use of the stop-loss program that imposes a lengthened term on reservists and soldiers who have already fulfilled their military service. The program, however, has its limitations. It only applies to individuals who are within 90 days of being deployed to Iraq.

“This policy is practically an unofficial draft,” he said. “It is conscription against a person’s will.”

There is currently a shortage of military personnel in the U.S. Armed Forces; more than 150,000 reservists are augmenting this shortage. Reservists make up about 40 percent of U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Moreover, service people are not informed of the possibility of being forced to fulfill a compulsory extension when they sign up.

In an effort to have the stop-loss program revoked, Webb is in the process of consulting legal counsel to protest his deployment orders and is considering taking legal action that could include filing a class action lawsuit against the United States government.

“In my mind this policy is not only unethical, it is illegal,” Webb said.

National Lawyers Guild\'s 4 arguements against Stop-Loss
1) Stop-loss violates statutes prohibiting involuntary extensions of enlistment without a declaration of war or national emergency by Congress;
2) The statute granting presidential authority to suspend laws on separation and retirement anytime reservists are serving on active duty unconstitutionally delegates congressional authority to \"raise armies\" by allowing an involuntary \'draft\' of combat veterans at the whim of the executive (and military);

3) Stop-loss is arbitrary and capricious, because the asserted justification is based on false information (or information has been withheld), and therefore violates the due process rights of service-members and the Administrative Procedures Act;

4) Stop-loss breaches service-members\' enlistment contracts.

STOP LOSS/STOP MOVEMENT PROGRAM
http://carlwebb.net/stop-loss.html
I\'m trying to investigate the official wording of the most recent Stop Loss policy because the way I interpret it is that the policy can only implemented if you are within 90 days of the arrival date in Iraq. So far I\'ve only been told that November is the \'estimated time\' of departure. So I\'m not even sure they can legally do this since I may not be within that 90 day limit. But when I asked for the exact date I was told it\'s classified. Below is the answer I got in reply to my request:

If I had that type of information, I would tell you that the exact date of departure is classified and not for public consumption. However, I honestly do not know the exact date for our departure.

Take care

Sir,

Could you tell me exactly what day we are to depart for Iraq?

\"It is a sad day in America when the lawmakers side with the lawbreakers against the law-abiding citizens.\"

It is a sad day in America when the lawmakers side with the lawbreakers and that was done recently to my cable TV show on RCN. Who was the lawmaker?

Representative Debbie Blumer.

It seems our cable show CCFIILE $4500 Club Illegal immigration Chat has hit a raw bone in the Framingham community. According to Tom Steel RCN represenative, complaints were made about the controversial show which featured me and a CO-host discussing the topic of illegal immigration.

We didn\'t hold back in exposing those in this town for their failures to solve this highly volatile topic, even showing their pictures to the TV audience. What makes this so much more interesting is we quote and show the Metrowest Daily News actual articles proving the correctness of our accusations right on the TV screen. For that a complaint was made to RCN representatives by a group of \"Latinos\" who took offense at the program. It seems playing the program every day was to much for these illegal alien supporters to bear so they protested our freedom of speech and put pressure to RCN to carry the show only ONCE a week on RCN channel 3 to WED at 6pm.

When pressed for the reasons for this semi-censorship the RCN spokesman Mr. Steel came up with Miss Blumers name. We still have no official paper trail as to what it is about our show that offends Miss Blumer but It better be good because she and her cohorts are violating our right to free speech without the reason for a complaint other than we are telling the truth with our shows message and the illegal community is having a hard time with that.

To prove the point about how our politicians are influenced by Illegal alien supporters catch what Ilma Paixao, BRAMAS president did at the 60th Cushing Memorial dedication. I wonder what she was discussing with our politicians?

I could not help to see the application of this quote about this situation:

Cable show cut back by Illegal aliens

Complaints prompt change in cable show: Immigrant show on RCN cut to once a week

By D. Craig MacCormack / News Staff Writer
Thursday, September 30, 2004

FRAMINGHAM -- Complaints by several Latin American subscribers and a state representative, among others, led a local cable channel to scale back the number of times it runs a controversial show on illegal immigration.

RCN, which had been running \"Illegal Immigrant Chat\" every night at 6, will now run the show only on Wednesday nights at 6, said vice president of government relations Tom Steel.

\"We started to get some complaints,\" said Steel, saying state Rep. Deborah Blumer, D-Framingham, called him to ask why the show was run so often. Several Latin American subscribers called to complain about the content, he said.

RCN is required to air the show once a week, which it will do, said Steel.

Jim Rizoli, who with his brother Joe, hosts the 12-week-old \"Illegal Immigrant Chat,\" was upset they were not informed that their one-hour show was being scaled back.

\"We noticed they weren\'t playing it as much,\" he said. \"But no one ever called to tell us why.\"

Joe Rizoli, a co-founder of Concerned Citizens and Friends of Illegal Immigration Law Enforcement, talked to Steel, who told him Blumer was among those who called to ask about the show.

The brothers called Blumer for an explanation but were waiting for her to call back and explain herself, said Jim Rizoli. Blumer said yesterday she plans to call them soon.

The show focuses on improving the enforcement of illegal immigration laws, he said, and often calls out local legislators the brothers believe turn a blind eye to the situation.

A recent episode featured a video from the John Birch Society, which looks to \"restore and preserve freedom under the United States Constitution,\" according to the organization\'s Web site, on illegal immigration.

\"Illegal Immigrant Chat\" runs on Comcast at least once a week, said Jim Rizoli.

\"We say what we want,\" said Jim Rizoli. \"We don\'t hold back. Blumer and (state Rep. Karen) Spilka aren\'t doing anything to solve the problem. They want to give (illegal immigrants) all these rights.\"

\"I want to find out what (Blumer) didn\'t like,\" he said.

Blumer said she called RCN to ask about their policy on multiple showings after several residents called her to complain about the show.

\"I didn\'t ask them to pull the program,\" said Blumer. \"Regardless of what I thought, people came to me about it. They have the right of free speech and I respect that. I just called to find out what the policy was.\"

Amy Goodman

She had a \'frog in her throat\' on today\'s show. And as she choked back coughs, my appreciation for her grew even more. She\'s awesome and I admire so much for all she\'s has done and continues to do. Today I realised that a little bit more. :D
She was in MD a few weeks back and I love in VA. I was so hyped up about going to see her but I had no transportation. So that really sucked.
I\'m currently reading the book she and her bother David Goodman wrote-Exception to the Rulers, Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers, and the Media That Love Them. Truth be told, I\'m taking notes as I read this book. It\'s packed full of information that the mainstream meda ignores. Information that is critical if the whole truth be told.
Bless Amy and her brother and anyone who gives a *censored* about truth, idependent media and freedom of speech.
=)
I shall be writing more in here. This journal is great!
