FROM TORONTO, CANADA
Friday, July 14, 2006 has been proclaimed Psychiatric Survivor Pride Day in the City of Toronto. To celebrate we are coordinating The Mad Pride 2006 Weekend September 14th to 17th 2006.

Arrow Today, the issues of poverty, psychiatric abuse and assault, and lack of safe, affordable housing are still here, but SO ARE WE!.
Arrow In celebration and recognition of Psychiatric Survivor Pride we will present THE MAD PRIDE TORONTO 2006 WEEKEND:
Eek! Opening and Awards Ceremony and Rights Forum: 12 noon - 3pm on Thursday, September 14th at Parkdale Activity and Recreation Centre, 1499 Queen St. West, hosted by Parkdale Activity and Recreation Center, and Parkdale Community Legal Services.

Eek! Community Treatment Orders: Imprisoning With Drugs in the 21st Century: 4pm - 5pm on Friday September 15th at The Peace Lounge, 7th floor, OISE Ontario Institute for Studies in Education 252 Bloor St.
West (accessible from St. George Subway). Presented by Erick Fabris.

Arrow In the last few years, psychiatry has brought its commitment powers out into the community. This research presentation brings forward how psychiatric inmates have dealt with forced treatment outside of psychiatric facilities. New psychiatric laws across the US and 3 Canadian provinces, including Ontario have introduced a law to enforce treatments, monitoring, and appointments for people released from hospital, supposedly with their consent. This new legal power is named the "Community Treatment Order" or "CTO" (or "Involuntary Outpatient Committal" in the US). Many of the myths about CTO's are discussed in this presentation. Survivors and allies continue to struggle against these laws, and have even prevented them from being passed in New Mexico this year. Horrible experiences by CTO inmates shed light on how mandatory treatment beyond psychiatric facilities are being used and abused in Ontario. Treatment orders may be a cheap new form of institutionalization by use of chemical restraint.

Mad Pride 2006 Celebrations

Exactly, nobody really knows the Power of the Mind..

People have two eyes ,i believe there are three .The Third
eye is called the "Mind eye" ...that can see all things.

=================================
two people A & B were having a chat in the garden.

A told B to go for therapy and B replies,A you need
to go for therapy ...Understood..

Meaning, the people who are responsible for making
others go for therapy should go for therapy first...
eg Consider Us soldiers.
They were perfectly normal people put in situations
or conditions ,now some of them have to go for therapy.
Iam sure if i imagine myself in the boots of a soldier,
anyone would behave like that.

A told B indirectly B was mad and had to go for therapy
while B point of view is that people who MAKE perfectly normal people mad should go for therapy first,.......this is a very imporant point
while fighting legal cases.

So there is a difference between Crazy, mad, eccentric
and genious...along the line.

Mad Pride 2006 Celebrations

Hi,

I wrote a website about my forced psychiatric care experience. It was Fresno County U.S GOVERNMENT that did it to me. I was perfectly fine and had just complained in a reasonable non-volatile way about how a juvenile was neglected. He was brought in (according to him) by the police and could not get up do to police abuse and I asked for his epilepsy medications for him as he could not himself do to injuries. I asked and asked for his meds for him and he ended up have a grand mal seizure hitting his head on the chair. I asked for 30-45 minutes.

I complained to an employee and got his card, shortly after, like 20 minutes I was threatened by a doctor that never saw before to take meds or be confined and given a shot.

The day after as I was just there because my apartment had problems, I saw a county worker forcefully put a disabled person into confinement. He was a Hispanic developmentally disabled individual who was clapping at me and I was tapping on the table, we were talking. For socializing he was placed in confined isolation by force.

A superior court judge released me from that place. Shortly after because of the things they did to me, my parents moved me out of that city and county. I was dependent upon the social service system that threw me into that place because my apartment was leaking and I asked them to talk to my apartment manager, instead I was taken against my will into a locked facility.

http://www.nathanyoung.net

I wrote a book on NathanYoung.net called Turning In Big Brother about what went through my mind, what I witnessed and experienced.

In America, I’d expect better, now I’m speaking out and it’s costing me $100+ a month to put ads on Google and yahoo embarrassing the county government when people look up government services and departments in the county government there.

The Great Escape Back to Bedlam
Bed Push Brighton Londoon
and
London Mad Hetters Tea
7th- 10th of August

For more information go to: http://www.kissit.org To contact us email: kissitxxcampaign@aol.com

Like the policies of the government and most psychiatric hospitals...We are going back to Bedlam!

The Great Escape bed push aims to raise awareness about the poor levels of choice of treatments and the widespread use of force used in the psychiatric hospitals. The Great Escape Bed Push Team believe in its current state psychiatric care often makes people's problems worse and that the use of unnecessary force is on the increase. Many of the campaigners have been in-patients who have witnessed and experienced the use of forced drug treatment. They are joined by nurses and others concerned by the emphasis on control in psychiatry and the lack of therapeutic activities.

The crazy bed pushers will give out wanted posters and dodgy pills (sweets) to members of the public and proclaim 'Psychiatry is off its trolley!' At various points of the journey the escapees and the public will have to look out for the giant 6 foot syringe squirting water at them.

The bed push will end at Geraldine Harmsworth Park, London at 3pm on 10th of August. The bed pushers will join a 'Mad hatters Tea Party'(see HERE)

A petition will also be presented to 10 Downing
Street protesting about the over use of force in psychiatry (e.g. forced drugging, forced ECT, psychosurgery and brainwashing).

Campaigners would like more meaningful activities in hospitals, access to alternative therapies, more accountability about levels of force used in psychiatry and more alternatives to hospital admission
provided (e.g. crisis houses).

Psychiatry has a shameful history and deplorably it has carried many aspects of its past in to the present. Psychiatric treatment is often more akin to state sanctioned torture than to compassionate and
sensitive care......Incarceration, physical force, forced drugging, compulsory electric shock treatment, pain compliance techniques, psychosurgery and brain washing.........

The Mental Health System is in urgent need of radical reform. We demand an Immediate End to Psychiatric Assault.
