Just ranting about the war and economy

This war was never about fighting a dictator who directly threatened our freedom or way of life. He never had the means to attack us directly and his alleged ties to terrorism have never been proved, nor were any weapons of mass destruction ever found. In fact, every argument that was forced on the American people for going to war has fallen apart. How would we feel if some huge world power did that to us? We would be fighting mad and we would be doing the same things they are doing. So what are we left with?

As citizens of the USA, we are forced to swallow the fact that we invaded a country for no reason except to take control of it's energy resources. Yes, I agree that Saddam was a tyrant and that many people suffered and died at his hands, and that removing him was good for those people. However, we are no longer liberators of those oppressed people. We have stayed, and that, in the worlds eyes, makes us look like conquerors. Is it any wonder that those people hate us?

Don't get me wrong. Every one of those assholes who were a part of what happened five years ago must be brought to justice, and we must route out the rest of them and make sure they can't hurt any more of the worlds citizens. But, what we have done in Iraq has done nothing more than bring more enemies into the picture. We sure don't need any more, but we've got them. Every day, we spend billions on maintaining this war, while people in New Orleans remain homeless, and destitute. Those people desperately need the help of our government, but the government is throwing them noting but a few crumbs here and there.

Instead of The United States of America, under this government we should be called something like The United Oil Company of America. Look at what oil has done for us in the past four or five years! It has made the old time "Sunday drive" obsolete. Who can afford to load the family in the car and take a road trip today? Kathy and I watched a movie the other day and she noticed the price at a gas station was $1.13 a gallon. It seemed like that was a long long time ago, but the movie was made in 1997! Look at the price today! Compare the increase of gas to that of your wages, and it will really piss you off! There is a huge difference! But that's just the tip of the iceberg!

Everything we buy or use in this country and our economy is directly tied to oil. I recently watched a program on TV that stated the "for every single calorie of nutrition we get from food, TEN calories of oil was needed to get the food to our table". They used vegetables as an example, and farming on an industrial scale.

Even if we refuse to believe that statement, the fact remains that everything we eat must get trucked or shipped to us some way. The trucking industry that delivers our food and consumer goods is paying much more for fuel, and are those companies going to eat that extra cost out of the goodness of their hearts? Hell no! If they did, they wouldn't be in business very long, and more people would be out of work. The extra trucking cost is passed along to our local grocery stores, and do they eat that cost? Hell no! The consumer gets to eat that cost. Not willingly mind, you but is is literally forced down our throats. Face it, what choice do we have? None.

And let's not forget our friends at the gas company! When hurricane Katrina hit, they jumped on board with the oil companies in a joint effort to stick it to the little man. I guess I miss stated that a bit. They didn't care if it was the little, middle or big man, they just stuck to all of us, and unfortunately many didn't come through it too good. I don't know about you, but we just love to see gas bills that are hundreds of dollars more than they were just a year ago! We are so happy that someone has figured out a use for all the extra money that was just lying around and getting in the way!

Isn't it about time that someone steps up and runs for president that will actually do something for the little people of America. There I go again using the word little, when the correct classification for this group of people is really "the backbone of America"! Isn't it time that someone steps up in authority and says, "This is enough! The people of this country have suffered enough!" Isn't it about time that someone takes a stand and actually does something instead of just talking? Isn't it time for our young people to stop fighting and dieing for oil? I am not trying to diminish what our young people in the service have done! On the contrary, we owe each of them a debt that can never be repaid.

Did we learn nothing in Vietnam? We tried to fight an enemy that was hidden, and we couldn't tell friend from foe. Our soldiers won the battles where the lines were clearly drawn, but we lost everything else, because we couldn't see the forest through the trees. How do you fight an enemy that walks among the decent and good people, but hates you in their heart, yet shows no sings of that outwardly? We have the same situation in Iraq right now. It's time to get the hell out of there!
