Local news paper, & the mis imformation about Nuclear Energy

Eek!
In the Wensday September 6, 2006 issue of 'the shopping bag Advertiser a local paper which is sent out weekly to Residence In the up state NY area's around Monroe County. In this current issue I stummbled upon a small article called 'A practicle Solution To U.S. Energy Needs May Exist,' with a small cartoon of uncle sam high fiving an atomic particle. This article was completely bias towards the Nuclear Energy Companies, insisting that nuclear power was safe and clean as the worlds largest source of emission free energy. It also says that the "unlike coal, natural gas, or oil- all non renewable and subject to price volitality- nuclear power plants are fueled by uranium, a relatively abundant element that occurs naturally in the earths crust." The article ended by telling the reader to contact the house of rep. and the senate and tell them that you support nuclear energy. Well I can not do anything about the grossly mis imformed context of this article which incidentally and conviently has no author, but I did contact the paper itself.

This is what is really scary! I contacted the editor and left a message with some strong language about how I was offended by the ignorance of the paper to distribute such nonsence. I also requested the author so I could contact him/her and confront him directly about writing such vial propoganda for currupt enegery companies. To my surprise I was contacted imediatelyby the editor of the paper; possibly because I threatened to cancel my subscription.

She was very polite and understood my concerns about the article. She then proceeded to tell me that her paper obtained the article from the associated press and that they used it unintentionally and randomly as filler like several other articles in the publication. She continued to tell me that the article was in cyndication sent with no author, I assume that this article is all over the country and is a tool to mis direct the public. However the paper contains local news, community information and people in the area, which leads me and I assume other subscribers to believe and trust this paper as a local source of news free from the media giants control. I also have come to the conclusion that this article was targeting an elderly/ retired age type person who is more likely to read the paper and trust it's ideas and then act accordingly and contact the gov.

This type of misleading, unassuming journalism which is truly a tool of propoganda by the powers that be which continue this downward spiral of complete complacent ignorace disgusts me and I wish to fight it and expose it.

I would also like to add I read this article this morning the 7th of September 2006 and all the events which occured, including my writing this happened between the hours of 9 am and 11 am. I am prepared to act and this is right now the only way I know how.
