Troop Surge vs. Diplomacy Surge?
During his State of the Union Address, scheduled for January 23, George Bush is going to tell the American people that a troop surge is required in Iraq so “we” can win the war on “terra”. Yes it is quite a Freudian slip for him to pronounce terror the way he does. Terror or Terra, a certain people, have been winning this war. CEOs of defense contractor firms have received pay raises of over 200% to a $11.6 million average since 9/11. This pay is over 160 times what an army private receives, before they die in service of their his country.
What has been accomplished in this Iraq war? Over 3000 brave American men and woman have died honorably serving their country. Over $1300 dollars for every US man woman and child, has been spent. This war has killed over 600,000 Iraqi people, some say over half these were women and children. A dictator the CIA helped install and US companies sold chemicals and weapons to, has been hung. Enemy combatants, terrorists, insurgents or militants, by any name, the number of people who hate our country and are willing to die to fight us has grown.
A better plan is a SURGE IN DIPLOMACY backed by honesty and humanity. This would bring us a lot closer to peace, and do more to protect “our national interests” than a surge in troops. To accomplish this will require us to impeach a well-known warmonger.
