Surrounded by the blind
I'm 24 years old. I'm a husband, a soon to be father, and a fellow tax payer. I've been trying to live my life by the rules and have tried my hardest to live a respectable life. BUT! All of this I have not done with blinders around my eyes. People often find it easier to not pay attention to what is going on around them because they are all to focused on what is right in front of them. It is possible to change the minds of others, but only when you are able to relate your views & issues to something that directly or indirectly affects their lives.
For example: The 2004 election was completely aimed at George W. & John K. No attention was put towards any third parties. WHY? Because the media doesn't benefit financially from having a third party in office. The media is controlled by corporations & corporations benefit from money hungry political parties.
A majority of Americans minds are not influenced by their own opinions. They rely of the papers & the news to help them make their decisions. If more americans new that their were stations such a FSTV they would turn some of their attention away from these ratings hungry corporations.
All it takes is one truthful thought outside of the norm to turn peoples attention away from the crap that they are fed. The truth is out there. Unfortunately, most people have to have stuck right in front of their face for them to see it.
Most people I asked about the 2 "leading" parties in the election, said it was a choice between two evils. They didn't want to vote for either, but they made their choice. When I asked them about voting for a third party, they said they didn't know anything about them. It's quite sad.
Knowledge is power & knowledge creates individuality. This country needs to turn off their tvs and start opening their minds to words. Tv kills curiosity, while reading helps it blosom.

people are asleep thay are not aware of them selves
thay are not aware of how there actions affect others
thay are not aware of how there actions affect themslevs
thay are not awere of how there actions affect the world around them
All the problems in this world come from people not being aware
and there is veary little that can be done to make them a aware
the best that can be done is to set an example so there is some
hope but alass veary little

I think most people do go thorugh life with blinders on because they trust, they trust the media to tell them the truth, they trust their leaders to make the right decisions. They never look outside their little box. They never look at past history of the times we the American population was used like guinea pigs or at how our own military was given experimental injections without their knowledge they were told it was innoculations. They never bother to look at who owns and controls their media. They just never question or look for alternative media sources, I think a lot of them are afraid and it is scary once one sees what is going on.

In regard to the American people making foolish steps toward building this War machine government we live in; I do not completely blame them. It is not just their “ignorance” or lack of motivation that is to blame; or their misunderstanding of America’s history and histories of other imperialistic governments throughout the world. What is to blame is the imperialistic side of the government and the corporate media. This “public media” and its proprietors have “brainwashed” Americans to believe that war is always right, the government is infallible, and America is a perfect country that strives to “liberate” other nations for non profit intentions. And to question such motives is unpatriotic or un-American.
Such actions are completely sensible for a controlling government’s point of view, but that is why a Declaration of Independence was written, with a Constitution, and a Bill of Rights. The intention of these documents were to put the people in control and create a democracy for all generations. At least that is what Thomas Jefferson hoped for. But now that is not the case, as it has been for a while in America’s history. A history with the Hamiltonians and bankers taking the interests of the rich while Jeffersonians and Wilsonians take the opposite side to defend civil liberties. There is always these conflicts of interests and it is part of our democracy. But now the pendulum has swing toward the more business side of things and less civil liberty side. It is normal, but not justified. Sure Bush sucks as a president, but hopefully America wakes up before any catastrophic event(s) happen i.e., WW3, Mad global warming, complete deforestation.

I have frequently thought that many political candidates continue to win because people are scared sh**less (asterisks mine to conceal the word "shitless") that their friends will view them as odd, different, or unworthy of friendship if they don't go with the flow. Also, I think a lot of people feel they have to be on the team that has been winning a lot, regardless of it's ideology.
The other day I was driving home in a sea of the big oval "W" bumperstickers when I saw something curious nailed to a phone pole. It was a hand painted sign with a pretty blue/green planet Earth on it, and the caption said "It's a planet, not an empire". I'd love to meet the wonderful soul who made that, and who had the courage to put it up alongside a major boulevard. Maybe this person sneaks out and catches a little FSTV between sweeps of Big Bro's eye! ;-)

Do most people seem to go through life with their eyes closed? I'll have to disagree. In my experience, I see most people as having blinders on, only seeing one way to get through it. This is true with those who have children. I've never been a parent, but I see that parents mostly want to see their children (as we all have been) get through life with minimal problems and do all that is possible to achieve this goal. Is it wrong? I haven't a clue, not being a parent. Guys like me, without kids, are able to reflect differently on life as there is no burden (or joy, depending on your point of view and experience) to deal with.
Do you want to know where I saw non-Christians dealt with differently than here in the states? England. I went through Heathrow airport, post 9/11, and everyone that looked like they were of Middle-Eastern descent (including Hindus) get separated from the regular search line and treated differently than others. If that would happen in this country, the ACLU would be all over it.
A friend of mine told me that life gets better as we get older. I think it gets more freer as well because we are more understanding of ourselves and care less about the opinions of others. Just because there are those of us who voted for "W", that doesn't mean we don't have a brain. Just like those who didn't vote for "W" have a brain. We have our reasons. You may not agree with many of the reasons, just like I don't agree with many of the reasons here. But, those reasons should be respected.

Well, I didn't post this in the election/political section for a reason. The thought goes further then the election. For example, what was that stupid dance in the 90s ? The machanara or something like that. Did all those people really want to dance that or did they do it because everybody around them was doing it ?
I am not immune to this disease, I am sure I have smoked pot or drank too much because people I was friendly with was doing it. But I didn't turn it into a life's passion as other people I no longer consider my friends did.
But if the one remark about how people vote is all that came out for some of you, then my writing skills are lacking. I will try to make myself more coherent next time.

i agree with you on spirit, but you make the false and automatic assumption which equates voting for W as voting with the masses and a vote for someone else as someone who has thought things throught. That is an errorous and dangours conclustion my friend. More than likely, I would have probabbly voted for kerry if I had voted (actually, scratch that, I would have voted for Badnardick), but that doesnt mean that my point of view is more valid and more though thought than someone who thinks that W is the lessor evil. Some people just think that. And considering where they are comming from, I dont blame them.

I have thought about this alot. My conclusion is that most people lead thier lifes with thier eyes closed. After that I asked myself why? Then my answer was because it easier. It is easier to vote the way every one else you know votes. It is easier to think the way everyone else around you thinks. Olive skinned man, terrorists, Christian white man, Good. It is easier to do what we are told regardless of the consequences of what we do. Dump that over there, OK, do I still get paid?
Has anyone here every really changed the thought process of people like this. I haven't, once a follower always a follower. Would any of these care to watch FSTV, not if thier life depended on it. Lord have mercy they might have to think about what they saw.
We have to consider the fact that we are predisposed to do our own thinking and the majority of america is not. Does anyone think they is any sort of movement or idealogy that can change these people ?
