The Politics Of Fear

Fear is a two-edged sword, Pres. Roosevelt once said "We have nothing to fear but fear itself" The only difference in wich way it cuts would be, not how fear is used, but "WHO IT IS USED AGAINST"

This has "NEVER" been more true then it is today and in the immediate past. How quickly we were ready to goto war when we were scared? How quickly we were ready to give up our rights and our freedoms when the prospect of some rogue bio-chemical threat seemed like it could have been a reality?

Fear is a natural human emotion and in and of itself in most cases, can be quite healthy. For example: Fear is a great motivator wich causes us to react, Fear is often the deciding factor when it comes to important or life threatening issues. Fear can keep an honest person honest. However when fear is used as a weapon against the general populous, it has a particularly devistating affect.

Fear, when used in this manner, creates political, religious, racial and class divisions that keep us seperated to the extent that when we are divided into these pre-determined groups we are easier for them to control. Remember "TOGETHER WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL" And thats just how they like it.

Society provides for and delivers many different brands of fear that we learn and are taught from a very young age! The more we have... ...the more we have to fear. As we begin to acquire knowlege about the true nature of the world we live in, the more we become aware of all the horrible things that occure to us and to others.

As children we may have been afraid of spiders, dogs, the man underneath our beds or the dark but as adults we find greater wealths of fears on a totally different level with grave and in some cases final consequences.

Governments, health organizations, corporations, politicians, financial institutions and religious factions are well aware of these issues and they use it against us every day, in every way, shape and form imagineable.

For instance: Avian Flu instills fear into americans every year wich drives the stock of the drug companies that make the vaccines through the roof.

Because americans are trying to eat more healthy these days we seem to have been bying less and less chocolate, a byproduct of this health trend is potential prophit losses, so a certain medical group publishes a paper saying a "New study has shown that chocolate is actually good for you" and presto, the stock maintains a certain prophit margine that was motivated by fear.

When anthrax was mailed to washington after 9/11 doctors issued prescriptions for a drug called cipro to combat a potential threat that never came, but the stock holders got payed didn't they? Fear is used in TV ads, political campaigns, analysis of the stock market, industry and more. In order to propagate their agenda, "We the people" need something to fear.

Likewise, on a geo-political, socio-economic and religious scale, the powers that be use fear tactics every day to achieve their goals, and we buy it lock, stock and barrel. Why? Because we have been programmed to from a very young age!

Ultimately there will always be something in this world to be afraid of. Some things we can control and in some cases even change, but there are a great many things wich we have no control over whatsoever.

Question? Should I walk down the road in fear because I know that some one might sneak up behind me and stab me in the back and take my wallet? If I can't see him comming I cannot not fear him because I'm not aware of him, Although the fear of the unknown can be very real it is something that we create within ourselves.

However, when I open my eyes and educate myself on the great many social injustices that are going on in the world, I'm forced to realize that those fears are justifiable because they are real and I CAN see them comming. CAN YOU?

All in all I think that if I'm presented with an opportunity to change something or make a difference, then I will act accordingly.

Yet I'm forced to remember the words of My Lord and Savior who said, "FEAR NOT HE WHO CAN DESTROY THE FLESH, BUT FEAR HIM THAT HAS THE POWER TO DESTROY BOTH THE FLESH AND THE SOUL IN HELL"

Your thoughts please?

Fear

Fear has been used as a oppressive and a contolling force ever since hiearchy existed. Although its a little disconcerting that the government will play on my fears to control spending, (i agree with you) face it, this is America. The land of capitalists, and the most brilliant marketing reps. in the world. My advise: just be glad someone came up with the idea of scare tactics because if Americans dont spend money, America doesnt make money. And I dont know about you, but I like the idea of going home to central heating and food. They just want you to move your ass and spend so join the club and dont take those truth commercials so seriously.
