Why are the American people powerless to stop the corruption of the United States?
the american people are far from powerless to stop anything. In a situation like this, it's far too obvious that this is exactly what they want. and like the bad things we want, we don't care to know how we got them...
you're speaking of a basic component of human nature, and by and large, most of us are human to some extent.
with that having been said; why are people marching off to wars they don't believe in, and dying from it?
why are we paying so much in taxes, in a country specifically evolved from fighting taxation?
why are the elderly destitute after a lifetime of toil in the richest country in the world? why are former soldiers homeless after fighting to keep YOUR homes safe from foreign invasion?
this highly vaunted system of checks and balances was not conceived by angels on High; shrewd men got together, and realized, all fair play aside, that the time would come when conflict and compromise would overrule eguity. sure..checks and balances sounds fair enough...
but who polls: who dies most in wars, dems or republicans? who pay more in taxes, dems or republicans? it's the same soil on both sides of the fence, but both herds swear the grass is greener on the other side.
america is one big pizza, but there are a lot of people on that one pie...so many, that some don't even get cheese, let alone the myriad of toppings...and since eveyone wants different toppings, you're only going to get so much pizza anyway, unless you're a glutton..the glutton will eat anything, while the others may not care for anchovies or mushrooms.
in politics, too many good things don't happen because; while everyone agrees on the cheese, somebody wants to toss anchovies all over the pie, and then the guy hosting just tosses the whole pie out...that's the way it works...riders on a bill.
heh heh...not so much powerless, hey try for yourself...decide YOU want to make changes, find out you have to play the game to get past square one, and then find out little by little the compromises and concessions YOU have to make in order to move up the movers and shakers ladder...soon you'll just see the dirt as an occupational hazard.
the synonym for politics is corruption. all over the world.

top down pov What american people are you referring to? the natives who welcomed and embraced the first settlers of the new world? perhaps you mean the contractors from the dark continent, who were good enough to come here and build a nation free of charge...the immigrants of all nationalities, perhaps? they, for the most part, are going along to get along.
or maybe your plea goes out to the waco types,..i guess they're powerless due to the fact that the second in charge is an FBI informant, as is every fifth person under him in the group.
well..i guess that leaves what we would could middle america..and tv shows tell us they just plain stupid.

top down pov one thing a politician knows; the big picture will always be overlooked in favor of personal interests. and if you can't please all the people all the time, why bother trying?
this view of an outraged america, unsettled and uncomfortable with the status quo, is a mere symbol, much like mom and apple pie, clean cut varsity and pure choir boys.
america is; a land of hipocrisy and chaos, filled with numerous microcosms of hipocrisy and chaos..from local electorates on the take, to corrupt police..the child molester who lives waaayy back in the woods where the urban fleers fled to....the dirty judges, the drunks and drug dealers...their customers, who, by the way, provide them with millions, even if they only may spend $5...escalating urban crime and grime, suburban dysfunction and adolescent horror..husband against wife..kids killing/suing/screwing their parents... who really has time to worry about the corruption of government? that's what they're there for..to do our bidding.

Many people in Germany knew that Hitler was Nuts that the Gestapo and SS were evil Nazi brutes. They had no choice because of one little thing...MONEY. The value of money lies within goods and services. Right now 1% of the population who are of no service to the rest of us other than controlling the money own 21% of the resources. Evidently these people (bad spawn) value war and oil far more that they value human lives. The antichrist is not new to this planet. There were people who thought themselves so much better that their fellow humans and used powers granted them through inheritance long before Jesus. In fact in the animal kingdom alpha males still are able to rule packs and herds because they subdominant members of the group fail to unite to overtake the oppressor. Anarchy and democracy are so close. We need to act together without any specific leader. We have to let the moral philosophical statements that we all agree upon guide us rather than an individual "Leader". I see our greatest social problem of the time being money and who controls it. Some participants here at FSTV.org seem to like Zeitgeist while others don't. The fact remains that what the people who control the money want they get. They want WAR because it is highly profitable to them and the debt it causes enslaves us all. THEY, the money people do not pay that debt, they collect it from us. We must unite in fair barter until we have the power to start an American Currency that once again values goods and services instead of privilage. It is getting very NAZI like right now and we had better organize so we can have a trial like the Nuremberg and get these less than humane people in prison where they belong.

Third point...I do believe alot is happening out of the public view, and the news media is not doing its job informing the American people on real events. (So why we debate what is nonsense or not, "real events" are mostly being ignored, why we argue over opinion based reporting)

The question is simple and on most of our minds. The root of the public distraction is basic and should be addressed early in this essay. We are simply put, willing participants in a reality that is economically driven and thus virtually inept to legitimately protest the abuse of power by our leadership in a mass manner that could possibly make a change due to our predicament.
There have been many events to declare moments of hope in bringing blatant disregard for U.S / World laws of behavior by an un-checked Executive to heroic conclusion, but every time these brave moments of true patriotism have been mysteriously muted. Any momentum or opening that in a reality based existence, would be pursued by an alert public and seen through to its conclusion. The partisan differences are obvious and the millions of American citizens that take sides can easily be attributed to lack of information, upbringing or ignorance.
These shady practices that occur often by our questionably elected leaders have set our country back decades, destroyed our hope, distorted our collective intelligence, put the honest citizenry into divisive and fearful postures and frustrated the hell out of those of us awake and eager to create positive changes.
The passes the Bush Administration have been given are reckless, and awe inspiring in the scope of the Earth's history. The treachery placed upon its people by the numerous abusers of power makes one nauseas.
With recent events of streamlining the electoral process by limiting candidates based on money, the manipulation of the debate process by the media and the lack of seriousness by the registered voters of America on reforming our voting system, our reality is that the humor is gone for some and declination unfortunately awaits the unexpected.
The all powerful interests that control this country and business of war around the globe may have found this window of control obtainable in their secrecy, but with defiant enlightenment and an aggressive judicial inquiry, this radical takeover of our senses may someday end.
